READINGGLADLY

Lifelong learners of all ages, are you . . .

• curious about why Shakespeare’s plays are still widely performed but don’t know how to read or watch his works?

• distracted by social media or increasingly unable to read lengthy books or densely written poetry or prose? Wondering how (or even if) literature from past centuries relates to our 21st-century lives?

• eager to read texts from a range of time periods, genres, and authors that focus on a specific topic? read multiple works by one author? read a range of works within a single historical period? read books you wish you’d read in college but never did?

Please note:

I provide training in the comprehension and critical analysis of texts and in ELA teaching strategies. I do not conduct or provide formal reading assessments or diagnose reading challenges (such as dyslexia or processing disorders).

Individualized or Small Group Coaching in Deep Reading

• Reader-response based discussion focused on text’s personal, literary, and cultural significance

• Questions provided prior to session to guide initial reading (see note below on selection of readings)

• Customized training (as desired) in comprehension and textual analysis (grammar, syntax, vocabulary; literary style and figurative language; form and narrative structure; genre conventions; historical contextualization; personal and cultural applications, etc.)

Selection of Readings

I specialize in Shakespeare, Milton, and poetry; children’s literature and picture books; and ELA pedagogy (drawing on classic and contemporary fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and drama). I collaborate with clients on reading selections, accommodating requests for specific texts, authors, genres, historical periods, and thematic emphases whenever possible.
